# How social support improves health care utilization

###### Emergency department overuse and preventable readmissions drive preventable costs in the U.S. health care system. Social support is proving to be part of the solution.

Members are more likely to seek social support during a significant health event, and when they receive that support, they are less likely to seek care in a hospital emergency department or be readmitted to the hospital.
